Rogue River Wilderness Fly Fishing Trips

he Rogue River is an iconic American classic, one of the world's great wilderness trips, a founding member of the National Wild and Scenic River System, and a river with such a grand reputation that in some circles it is simply known as “the Canyon”. Our Rogue River Wilderness Fly Fishing trips are tailored towards experienced anglers who want to get the most out of fishing this world-class canyon. It is a deluxe, wilderness downriver fly fishing adventure and we are the only outfitter to offer this style of trip on the Rogue.

The trip is offered as a downriver camping trip to allow for the best access to the prime fishing waters at the best times of day. The itinerary is flexible depending on conditions and each camp site will allow for evening and early morning wading options. We tend to make time through the first half of the canyon and then compress the schedule as the wading options increase on the lower river.

We will fish from rafts with fishing frames and each boat will have one guide and two passengers. The rafts will allow us flexibility for accessing shallow areas and a stable platform with plenty of space for casting. Days will include a combination of indicator fishing and swinging flies both from the boats and while wading. The trip is also a great opportunity to try spey casting or hone your spey casting skills. This itinerary is offered from mid September to mid October and we will fish primarily for Summer Steelhead and the famous Rogue River “half-pounder”. These are Steelhead ranging from 14 to 24 inches, with some larger fish up to ten pounds.

Each evening you will arrive to a comfortable, fully set up, riverside camp with drinks and appetizers ready, a campfire (fire conditions permitting), and a base camp tent for inclement weather. You will stay in large two person tents with room to stand and furnished with cots or thick sleeping pads. We are very well known for our food and the camp host will prepare three course meals featuring local and organic produce and products. An evening night cap and a comfortable night under the stars will end each day.

As with our drift boat trips this trip takes place in the stunning wilderness play ground that is the Rogue River Canyon - a place rich with pioneer history and home to a staggering amount of wildlife and abundant whitewater. It is a classic float trip down a world-class river and it is only offered by Momentum River Expeditions.
